About The Doctor

Dr. Carlos A. Suescun, MD grew up in Tampa, Florida and since an early age I had an interest into athletics, sports, and optimizing nutrition and fitness to stay healthy and achieving the perfect body an ultimate sports performance. I was involved in weight lifting, soccer, beach volleyball, tennis, running, scuba diving, and skydiving during my college years. I attended the University of South Florida in Tampa where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a premed track. I was also a member of Sigma Nu fraternity during my time at USF. Traveling was always a passion for me and I was able to travel many times to Europe and went backpacking throughout different European countries, making my way around mostly by train and public transport. I am originally from Colombia and therefore I am fluent in Spanish. I was always fascinated by the different cultures and languages around the world and am also fluent in French and Italian with a good knowledge and base of German.

Destiny took me to Dublin, Ireland where I attended the Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland for medical school. My medical school was very international and I made friends from all around the world. Living in Ireland and attending medical school there was an incredible learning experience which also afforded me to do more traveling around Europe and Northern Africa where I did a medical rotation in Tenerife, Canary Islands in Interventional Radiology and Pediatric Surgery.

After 5 years of horrendous Irish weather and many thousands of pints of Guinness, I searched for better weather (sun and blue skies) and ended up coming to the Valley of the Sun where I completed my residency in Internal Medicine. One of the places that I visited during my residency interviews was the University of New Mexico, where some of the residents approached me about going skiing in Santa Fe and I gladly accepted the challenge.

I fell in love with the sport of skiing immediately and went skiing during any time off I had during my residency at Maricopa Medical Center and ever since then. I was able to become an advanced skier through hard training and dedication and have done numerous double black diamond runs, backcountry extreme terrain in Utah, Colorado, Canada, and the French Alps as well as heliskiing since then. After graduation from residency, I have worked as a hospitalist at Honor Health Osborn since 2006. During this time, I was introduced to the world of triathlon by a fellow physician and immediately got hooked and since then have completed many half Ironman races including the Hawaii 73.2 Ironman race, and I successfully completed the Arizona Ironman making it into the top 5% of triathletes in the world.
